What is REFLEXOLOGY??

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive treatment to the feet. There are over 7,000 nerve endings in our feet, these nerve endings are connected to different parts and systems of the body. By gently stimulating specific areas on the feet our natural healing response can be triggered in the corresponding system or organ within the body.

The soles of the feet represent a map of the body. The big toe represents the head, the spine follows the inside edge of each foot and all the organs and muscles are arranged corresponding to the position they are found in the body.
How does Reflexology Work?
Like acupuncture and shiatsu, reflexologists believe that energy flows around the body in channels. A blockage within an energy channel will result in ill health; many things can affect the flow of energy, stress being the biggest culprit. These energy channels, or zones as they are known in reflexology, split the body into ten lengthwise channels. All organs and parts of the body lie along one or more of these zones. The zones, five on each side of the body, end in the feet and hands. Stimulating a zone in the foot with the thumbs and fingers affects the entire zone throughout the body.

What to Expect from a Reflexology Treatment
At your first treatment you will be asked about your medical history during a consultation. After which you will be asked to remove your footwear and to sit or lie on a couch. An initial examination of your feet will take place before treatment commences.

The treatment involves the therapist applying pressure to the reflex points on the soles of the feet using fingers and thumbs. Areas corresponding to the parts of the body that are out of balance will feel tender when touched, reducing in tenderness after a few treatments. Different sensations will be felt from person to person. Some areas may feel tender or gritty, while some will feel slightly uncomfortable. This is a fleeting sensation instantly relieved.

It is advisable to have 4 treatments at weekly intervals to start with. The intervals between treatments can be extended as improvements occur. The amount of treatments you will require depends on your general health when commencing reflexology.

Reflexology is not just for people with specific ailments, it can be of benefit for those who have a busy, energetic lifestyle. To maintain a healthy balance it is extremely important for everyone to relax.
